That event gave much-needed exposure to women’s teams
ICC President Ray Mali’s message

Kuwait, Tue. 25th Oct.2007
On behalf of the International Cricket Council it gives me great pleasure to write this message for the ACC Twenty20 Cup 2007.
After the tremendous success of the ICC World Twenty20 in South Africa in September, this tournament under the same format is perfectly timed and is being played under the auspices of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), which in July organized the historic women’s Asia Cup in Malaysia.
That event gave much-needed exposure to women’s teams like Nepal, Bangladesh, United Arab Emirates (UAE), China, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Thailand and Singapore and this event should do something similar for the teams taking part in Kuwait.
I have long been an advocate of Twenty20 cricket because during my time as President of Cricket South Africa I saw the positive effect it had on the game – there were packed grounds and it brought a new audience to our sport. I have no doubt that it will have the same impact in the Asian region as well.
This event will not only provide players from all the participating teams with a chance to show their talent and potential, but it will also serve as a tool to speed up the development of the game of cricket in the region as well as opening commercial opportunities which will help the ACC to put more events of this scale.
This event will give cricketers from the region a fair idea about this format of the game which will help them return better prepared for the tournament in 2009, which will be a qualifying tournament for 2010 Asian Games.
I would like to congratulate the ACC and Kuwait Cricket Association for taking these creative and positive initiatives. Events likes these will ensure that our strong sport continues to get stronger and allows cricket to build the legacy that will sustain the sport for future generations.
Twenty20 version of the game has been gaining world wide popularity
Message from the President of the Asian Cricket Council
Jayantha Dharmadasa
Kuwait, Tue. 16th Oct.2007, In the last few years, the Twenty20 version of the game has been gaining world wide popularity. The shorter length of the game coupled with the explosive nature of Twenty 20 cricket, has made this version of the game an instant success. The Asian Cricket Council, as the premier development body of cricket in Asia is keen that the scope of the game of cricket is expanded in the region. In this regard, the Twenty 20 format offers an ideal opportunity to showcase the entertainment value of the game.
I am sure the ACC Twenty 20 Cup 2007 will generate wide interest among the participating countries as well as the cricket loving people of Kuwait. I take this opportunity to congratulate the Kuwait Cricket Association for coming forward to host this gala event.
The ACC Twenty20 Cup of 2009 will be an Asian Games Qualifier
Message form the Chief Executive of the Asian Cricket Council -
Syed Ashraful Huq
Kuwait, Tue. 16th Oct.2007, The ACC Twenty20 Cup replaces the three-day ACC Premier League Tournament (formerly called the Fast Track Countries Tournament) which had been running for three years Twenty20 cricket is a stepping stone to international prominence. he Asian Games in 2010 will feature cricket for the first time, in a Twenty20 format. This is a major advance for cricket in Asia and opens up a whole new range of growth and commercial opportunities.

TWe believe that success at this level will translate into successin the fifty-over game. These two formats are how our development-work will be measured. These two formats are what give the majority of our members a place on the international stage.
The ACC Twenty20 Cup of 2009 will be an Asian Games qualifier and all ten countries taking part in this inaugural event in Kuwait will want to finish in the top eight to put themselves in line for the Asian Games in 2010. We want to reach a level in ACC competition where every match matters; under our cumulative tournament rankings system, they do.
The Kuwait Cricket Association is to be congratulated on having the administrative skill to manage such a condensed, intense format between ten-nations. Kuwait as a newly emerging ICC Associate has achieved much in a short space of time and this tournament will give them further credibility as an international cricket venue.

ACC Twenty 20 in Kuwait to starts on 27th October 2007
Event promises to be a week of thrills and high drama on the cricket field
Kuwait, Mon 15 Oct.2007, It is a great pleasure for me to be able to send my best wishes to the Kuwait Cricket Association (KCA) ahead of this exciting ACC Twenty20 Cup 2007 which promises to be a week of thrills and high drama on the cricket field said Malcolm Speed the Chief Executive of the cricket controlling body ICC. As we have seen of late, the popularity of the Twenty20 format of cricket has really taken off. This particularly quick and exciting version of the game has been a big hit – literally,in many cases – all over the world and I have no doubt the people of

----Malcolm Speed----
Kuwait will have a great time watching the best players from their country, as well as the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Nepal, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Afghanistan as they go head to head over the next week or so.
As many of you will have seen, we at the ICC recently put on the inaugural ICC World Twenty20 in South Africa and we were very pleased with the way it was received. If viewing figures, spectator numbers and the reaction of the players, sponsors and media are anything to go by, then we can safely say the tournament was a success.
Twenty20 cricket is not meant as a replacement for the longer forms of the game but what we believe is that it helps to bring more people – players and spectators – into the sport, who will then hopefully return for one-day games and even three-, four- or five-day matches.
More people developing a love for and appreciation of cricket? Surely, that can only be a good thing and this is a good opportunity for the KCA to do that in Kuwait.
I know that the ACC Twenty20 Cup 2007 is being used as a way for the KCA to generate more awareness of cricket among local people and also to rekindle and stimulate interest of cricket-lovers in the region. I hope it does just that while also giving the players an opportunity to pit their skills against the best Associate cricketers in Asia.
He also wish everyone involved in this event the very best for the successfully completion of the event.
